Stone cold Steve Austin got his name way back in his WCCW days. It was his first day in the promotion and there was a booker named Dutch Mantell. He goes up to SCSA and told him he couldn't go by the name Steve Williams (his real name). So they were pressed on time so Dutch Mantell says off the top of his head Steve Austin. Then Steve tells Mantell that Steve Austin was the same name from the guy from the movie the 6 million dollar man. But Mantell didn't care so that's what Steve went under the name for there on out. He got the name Stone Cold when he was new in the WWF and he was out for illness. Well, his wife at the time gave him a cup of coffee and said he was Stone Cold (meaning he had a cold) so that's how he got that name.
