Who was the King of England in 1686?
There has not been a King (or Queen) of England since 1707.
England is a part of, but not the same as, The United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
In 1848, the monarch was Queen Victoria who reigned from 1837 to
1901, and at that time she was Queen of The United Kingdom of Great
Britain and Ireland.
Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, was not the king, but
her Prince Consort.
