Brigade refers to a detachment of 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers. Historically cavalry units operated on horseback, and were especially popular during the revolutionary and civil war. However, in modern times the term, "Cavalry" is generally attributed to any military unit that utilizes fast, highly mobile units (often armored) during deployment. The military almost exclusively uses the term "cavalry" for units utilizing helicopters, Put the two together, and a cavalry brigade is a military detachment of 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers that utilizes vehicles in the event of its deployment (most likely helicopters).

This would depend on the type of Brigade you are talking about. For Example: A Field Artillery Brigade would consist of two to five battalions. The 17th FA Brigade compliment was three battalions of 155mm M109s, One Lance Battalion and a HQ Battalion. Total number of men 2500. The calvary Brigade is of a similar size. Although Infrantry and Armor (Cavalry) are typically Regiments, they have been called Brigades and have been as large as 5000.

What was the Pulaska Cavalry Brigade?

I think what you are looking for is the Pulaski Calvary Brigade. During the Revolutionary war, Washington noted the effectivness of the British Dragoon regiments and the fear they generated on the battlefield. In 1777, Washington formed the Continental Light Dragoons and the training of these troops fell to a man called the Count Casimir Pulaski. The compliment of a brigade was 280 men to a troop with a total of six troops. To take it a step further. Due to issues with the Count and other American officers, Congress permited Pulaski to form his own unit. This became known as the Pulaski Legion. This was comprised of Calvary (Dragoons), Riflemen and Grenadiers.
