These coins were issued by the German States' Bank (Bank Deutscher Länder) prior to the establishment of the German Federal Republic. Even so they could occasionally be found in change up till 2002 when Germany adopted the euro.

The coins were produced at seven different mints (each with a different mintmark) and in 4 denominations (1,5, 10 and 50 Reichpfennig). To value the coin, one would need to know its denomination, mintmark, and condition (A 1941A 1 Rechspfenning in Fine condition is worth US$0.15, while a 1941J 50 Reichspfennig in Brilliant Uncirculated is worth US$150.00).
