The British 1902 Halfpenny is generally the same as all British Halfpennies minted from 1902 to 1910 inclusive. The exception with the 1902 Halfpenny is on the reverse, where there is "normal tide" and "low tide" variants. You would possibly need both coins side by side to appreciate the difference. The "normal tide" variant shows the sea level above the folds in Britannia's robe at the shin, the "low tide" variant shows the sea level below the folds in Britannia's robe at the shin. They are made from bronze, weigh 5.67 grams, 26 mm in diameter and have a smooth edge. The obverse has a right facing, bare headed King Edward VII with beard and moustache. The inscription around the circumference reads - EDWARDVS VII DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX FID: DEF: IND: IMP: which is abbreviated Latin for Edward VII, by the Grace of God, King of all the British Territories, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India. The reverse has the right facing, seated, robed and helmeted figure of Britannia holding a trident and shield, with the words HALF PENNY around the circumference and the year in the exergue below Britannia. The obverse was designed by George William de Saulles. The reverse is a modified design from an earlier design by Leonard Charles Wyon. Britannia has appeared on various British coins for over 300 years and symbolises Britain, British patriotism, and, at one stage, Britains' dominance of the seas.

"Low tide" and "High tide or normal tide" on a British Victorian 1897 Halfpenny or Farthing, or an Edward VII 1902 Penny or Halfpenny refers to how high up Britannia's shin the water is. It is a little difficult to discern unless you have one coin of each type. At "Low tide", the water is about level with Britannia's ankle. The hem of the robe is just touching the water line. At "High tide or normal tide", the water is a little above Britannia's ankle. The hem of the robe is well below the water line.
A mixed tide has two ebb tides. The first ebb tide occurs after the high tide, followed by a lower low tide known as a "slack tide." This is then followed by the second ebb tide before the next high tide.
