β 12y agoTheir are many websites that have detailed records of what sarial number rifles were built in what month of what year by each manufacturer. These sites are very easy to locate with a simple Google search of "M1 garand".

Old guns.net has a sight for military weapons made in the US.Get on the sight and slide down until you see military on the left sidebar.click and choose what miltary rifle you are looking for.Then supply the serial number and the date of production will pop up.Your rifle was made at springfield armory in 1944.
1863 was a civil war 58 caliber rifle. there is no history unless you fine the owner's family and the family knows details pertaining to the rifle.

One can find local rifle range in Springfield MO from the following sources: Andy Dalton Shooting Range, Lucky Gunner, Springfield Rod and Gun, to name a few.
There is a website that i can most likely find again that will tell you the year it was made. The value can be anywhere from a few hundred to a much higher value if it is original. Email me at jeffh61@sbcglobal.net
