A flea market is a place where people can buy and sell goods, usually second-hand. This is usually outdoors, though it can be indoors. The prices are open to bartering, and this is a much more common practice at a flea market than in a high street shop (for example). In the US I think it is also known as a "swap meet".
The origin of the name is in dispute. It may come from the fact that the buyers and sellers "hop" around the place a bit like fleas, or it may be because when they first appeared, goods (such as furniture) were often infested with parasites, so the buyer could be said to be buying fleas as well as the goods themselves.
Flea in french is Puce, the phrase flea market comes from France when back in the days, the "marche aux puces" was infested with fleas.
