It really depends if the book is in the public domain. Books such as Harry Potter, Eragon, and The DaVinci Codeare not legally available in e-form to be read for free. The publishers actively search the internet looking for people who have these posted. They can ask them to remove them or even press legal action.
Public domain titles can be read for free, and this usually includes older or more classic books. A Christmas Carol or The Scarlet Letter would be included. Project Gutenberg has large selections of free books online.
There are also other sites, like Google Books, that have some free titles (when available), and other selections from non-free titles so you can read a little and see if you like it before you buy. Amazon and Barnes and Noble are both large sources for legally free books. They are accessible through their eReaders or apps.
Why would you want to read Twilight illegally when you can buy it from a book shop for like $20? I do not know where you can read it illegally and even if I did I wouldn't tell you so HA. Why don't you just be a normal person and buy it like everyone else? Anyway, if you are wanting to read it illegally then that is just sad because it must mean that you don't care enough to display common courtesy and NOT BREAK THE LAW. Get a life and BE A NORMAL PERSON.
