The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is necessary to ensure the safety of workers who handle hazardous materials in the workplace. It provides standardized information about hazardous products, including their classification, labels, and safety data sheets, to help workers understand the risks associated with these materials and how to handle them safely. The chemical used was not identified (just called the chemical) from time to time people would be overcome by fumes, but after being outside in the fresh air they recovered. one day a worker was overcome ,but went to the lunch room instead of outside the lunch room had residual fumes present since his fellow workers did not know the name of the chemical (a cyanide derrivitive) nor the symptoms of an overdose the employee died on the lunchroom floor
