∙ 10y agoAbout three-fourths of all the elements are metals, and on the periodic table, they start with group 1 on the far left and extend all the way over to the "stair-step" line that zig-zags from boron down to astatine. The rest of the elements from there to the far right are non-metals. There are a small handful of elements along that "stair-step" that possess properties of both metals and non-metals, and they are referred to as metalloids. The two rows of elements usually shown at the very bottom of the periodic table are metals as well, although many of them are synthetic, meaning they do not occur naturally.
