An element.

An element by definition is a substance with a specific atomic structure different from all other elements. One type of element is distinguished from others by its atomic number, the number of protons in the nuclei of its atoms.

An element is a substance that has only one kind of atom in it. Each element is defined by the number of protons in the nucleus of its atoms, which determines the element's unique properties. Examples of elements include hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon.
