Oil is a broad term that refers to any viscous liquid that does not dissolve in water, while petroleum oil specifically refers to a type of oil derived from crude oil through refining processes. Petroleum oil is a subset of the broader category of oils.
Crude oil is the raw, unrefined form of oil extracted from the ground, while petroleum oil refers to the refined products obtained from processing crude oil, such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. Petroleum oil is the end product that is used for various purposes, whereas crude oil is the starting material before refining.
Crude oil is the raw material extracted from underground, while petroleum refers to the refined products obtained from crude oil through processes like distillation and refining. In essence, petroleum is the end product derived from crude oil.
Petroleum is oil, more specifically crude oil, a thick mix of hydrocarbons formed from compressed plant matter over a period of millions of years.
Petroleum jelly is made from petrolatum, a mixture of hydrocarbons derived from petroleum. The name "petroleum jelly" comes from the fact that it is derived from petroleum, not necessarily from being an actual jelly made from oil.
"Petroleum" is another name for what the rest of us call "oil" pumped out of the ground. The only difference is that when you call your oil "petroleum", you can get a better price for it.
Look at the can it came in or do an oil analyst if it is already in the engine. What difference does it make?

I think petroleum engineering has to do with the discovery of crude oil[hydrocarbons] in it's dark, sticky, viscous stage and lifting it to the surface and passing it to the refineries for the extraction of other components viz petroleum gases, petrol, kerosene . While gas and oil engineering has to do with reserving, distribution of refined oil and gas from crude oil to depots. Ismail Sani Ali.
Oil and petroleum are the same thing.

Synthetic oil is a chemically made substitute made from petroleum components as opposed to non synthetic which is made from crude oil.
Yes . . . motor oil IS refined petroleum.
Oil and Petroleum use is very efficient.
Yes, petroleum and oil are often used interchangeably. Petroleum is a natural mixture of hydrocarbons, which includes crude oil. Crude oil is the unrefined version of petroleum that is extracted from the ground.
