usulally they are shared and are localised around the 2 atoms being bonded. In 3 center 2 electron bonds as in B2H6 they are across 3 atoms. Also there are delocalised covalent bonds , delocalised across more than two atoms- examples graphite, benzene.

In a covalent bond, electrons are shared between atoms to achieve a stable electron configuration. Each atom contributes one or more electrons to the shared pair, leading to the formation of a shared electron cloud that encompasses both atoms. This sharing allows both atoms to achieve a full outer shell of electrons, making the bond stable.

A covalent bond is when elements share electrons evenly, so that they can help each other obtain eight valence electrons.
