Grout poisoning occurs when someone ingests or inhales grout, which is a mixture used to fill gaps between tiles. It contains potentially toxic substances such as cement, sand, and chemicals that can cause health issues if consumed. Symptoms of grout poisoning may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and respiratory problems.
New grout will not bond well to old grout because the surface of the old grout may be too smooth or uneven to create a strong bond. It's recommended to remove the old grout before applying new grout for a better adhesion and more consistent finish.
To clean grout, you'll typically need a grout brush, a mild cleaning solution (such as water and vinegar or a commercial grout cleaner), a bucket of water for rinsing, and a towel for drying. Protective gloves and goggles are also recommended when working with cleaning solutions.
Sevin Concentrate is actually an insecticide used in gardening. It is not meant for use in grout. If you are looking to clean grout, you would typically use a grout cleaner or a solution of vinegar and water. Follow the instructions on the cleaning product for the proper dilution and application method.
Brown grout that dries white typically results from improper mixing or water content during installation. It could also be due to a reaction with the air or existing grout residue on the tiles. It's recommended to follow manufacturer's instructions carefully and ensure proper mixing techniques for consistent color.
To remove grout stains, you can create a paste of baking soda and water, apply it to the stained grout, scrub with a brush, and then rinse with water. Alternatively, you can use a commercial grout cleaner following the manufacturer's instructions. For tough stains, you may need to use bleach or hydrogen peroxide on the grout, but be cautious as these can be harsh chemicals.

Grout is not toxic. Grout sealers and adhesives can be toxic but not the grout itself. Tami Barker www.mosaicforms.com Mosaic Art Instructor and Creator
You should use the grout that will work best for the biggest grout space that you need. So for a grout width like you described, 1/16 to 1/2, you should use sanded grout. Unsanded grout will look terrible in a 1/2" grout joint, but sanded grout will look great in both. Use sanded.
