Strong acids completely dissociate in water to form ions, resulting in high concentrations of H+ ions and a low pH. Weak acids only partially dissociate in water, resulting in low concentrations of H+ ions and a higher pH. Strong acids have a higher tendency to donate protons compared to weak acids.

What is the difference between strong and and weak acids?

A strong acid ionizes partially in water while a weak acid ionizes fully in water.

strong acid

Is hypochlorous acid a strong or weak acid?

Hypochlorous acid is a weak acid. It is a fairly weak acid compared to strong acids like hydrochloric acid.

Explain how the relationship between the strengths of an acid and its conjugate base and of a base and its conjugated acid?

When an acid is strong, its conjugate base will be weak, and vice versa. Similarly, when a base is strong, its conjugate acid will be weak, and when a base is weak, its conjugate acid will be strong. This relationship is known as the principle of conjugate pairs in acid-base reactions.

Difference between a weak and a strong acid involves the acid's ability to?

The difference between a weak acid and a strong acid lies in their ability to completely ionize in water. Strong acids fully dissociate into ions in water, while weak acids only partially dissociate. This distinction results in strong acids having a more significant impact on pH than weak acids.

Is the conjugate of a strong base is a weak acid?

No, the conjugate of a strong base is a weak acid. The conjugate base of a strong acid is weak, while the conjugate acid of a strong base is weak.

Is MgCl2 a weak or strong acid?

It is a weak acid

Is ephedrine sulfate a salt of weak base and strong acid?

Yes, ephedrine sulfate is a salt formed by the reaction between the weak base ephedrine and the strong acid sulfuric acid. This results in a salt that has properties of both an acid and a base.

What is the difference between a strong acid and a weak acid answers.com?

A strong acid completely dissociates in water to produce ions, while a weak acid only partially dissociates. Strong acids have a higher tendency to donate protons, resulting in a lower pH compared to weak acids with the same concentration. Examples of strong acids include hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid, while examples of weak acids include acetic acid and citric acid.

Is vinegar a strong base or weak base?

Vinegar is a weak acid, not a base. It is primarily composed of acetic acid, which is a weak acid.

What makes a strong acid differ from a weak acid?

A strong acid dissociates more completely than a weak acid.

Is ethanoic acid stronger than hydrochloric acid?

Hydrochloric acid is stronger than ethanoic acid. Hydrochloric acid is a strong acid, while ethanoic acid is a weak acid. This is due to the differences in their chemical structures and dissociation properties.
