A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture in which you can tell is made up of different parts. So basically if you can see with your eye that the mixture has different components to it, then it is heterogeneous.

Examples include:

Chocolate chip cookie

Italian salad dressing

Blood (you can see the parts microscopically so it is heterogeneous)

Orange Juice with pulp

Homogeneous is the opposite. You can't tell the substance is a mixture by looking at it:
