It depends on when it was minted. Modern dimes don't contain any silver, but up till 1964 all US dimes were made of an alloy of 90% silver and 10% copper.

When the price of silver shot up in the 1960s the Mint was forced to remove silver from circulating coins, so all circulating dimes and quarters dated 1965 and later, and halves and dollars dated 1971 and later, have no silver in them.

Yes, US dimes minted before 1965 contain 90% silver. Dimes minted in 1965 and later are made of a copper-nickel alloy.

How do you tell if a 1935 US dime is made of silver?

A 1935 US dime should be made of 90% silver and 10% copper. You can check the edge of the coin for a visible silver coloration. Alternatively, you can use a magnet - silver is not magnetic, so if the dime does not stick to the magnet, it is likely silver.
