Water is homogeneous.

-------------------------------------------------

Actually natural water is heterogeneous as it is a mixture of H2O and a very tiny amount of D2O. The D2O (i.e. heavy water) has higher mass than H2O and slightly different chemical properties. However for ordinary practical purposes the presence of this D2O can usually be ignored.

No, H2O is a pure substance because it is composed of one type of molecule, which is water. It is not a heterogeneous mixture, which consists of two or more substances that are physically combined but not chemically bonded.

1. Pure (distilled), degassed water is not a mixture. It is a compound because it contains all of the same molecule, H2O. 2. Distilled, non-degassed water is a homogenous mixture. It will have gases such as argon, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide dissolved in it. The solution is homogeneous because the components are mixed at a microscopic level. 3. Tap water is DEFINITELY a homogeneous mixture. It contains ions, dissolved gases, bacteria, etc. But unless you are seeing brown chunks or a sediment floating around in it the water is still a homogeneous mixture since its components are again mixed at a microscopic level.

Water, H2O, is not a mixture, but a compound. A mixture contains multiple substances that are together, but not combined (shampoo, soil, trail mix, etc.). Water is one substance, containing multiple elements (hydrogen and oxygen) that have been chemically combined, making it a compound.
