Note: Always follow lab safety guidelines when using chemicals and equiptment. As far as i know, and I know quite a bit in this particular case, you can get silver oxide in small amounts from silver oxide batteries. They are small and expensive, but i can guarantee their silver content. Silver cutlery will develop a silver oxide coating, you can try to scrape it off but that might not be too succesful. You might want to try this AT YOUR OWN RISK: If you get some cheap silver cutlery from Salvo store or Vinnies or something, you can file it into powder, react with conc. nitric acid and then add dilute sulfuric acid (or sodium sulfate) solution to precipitate Ag2SO4. Filter the solution, (wash) [add more water], and filter again. [I prefer to use acids because, if you can be sure of metal purity, obtaining pure silver sulfate is as easy as boiling off IN A FUME CUPBOARD. {nitrate impurities don't matter, because of next step}] After drying powder, heat to decomposition OUTSIDE OR IN A FUME CUPBAORD... [will produce potentially deadly fumes of Nitrogen dioxide and Sulfur Dioxide]. You will be left with mostly silver oxide, depending on how much you heat it... I suggest that you look up MSDS's for all chemicals/reagents/by-products above before attempting anything... ------------------------------Disclaimer---------------- I hereby accept no responsibility over the actions of the individual(s) who read or attempt anything metioned by me... I have made attempts to ensure that my information is correct, but accept no responsibility over wrong or misleading information... If anyone is in doubt do not try this!!! Just incase you didn't understand, I ACCEPT ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSIBILITY. :)

What household items contain iron oxide?

Titanium dioxide is white, so it's often used as a pigment. I personally know that it is often found in white paint. According to the wikipedia article, found at http://www.answers.com/topic/titanium-dioxide, it is also used in most sunscreens because it has "a high refractive index." This makes sense because it's white--it reflects lots of light.
