To work out the number of neutrons in an atom, we have to look at it's symbol o the Periodic Table. All elements on the periodic table have two numbers. The top one is the atomic mass. This is the number of protons + neutrons. The lower is atomic number, which is the number of protons alone. Therefore, to get the number of neutrons we have to take away the atomic mass from the atomic number. In Potassium (K) this is 39 - 19 = 20. Therefore, there are 20 neutrons in an atom of potassium.
