You can test for an acid using litmus paper - it will turn red in the presence of an acid. To test for an alkali, you can use litmus paper as well - it will turn blue in the presence of an alkali. Additionally, you can test for an alkali using phenolphthalein indicator - it will turn pink in the presence of an alkali.

Use the litmus paper..!!

If the blue litmus paper turns red...then it's acid.

If the red litmus paper turns blue...then it's alkali.
