Yes it does work. I have done it many times and it comes off very easily. Make the water luke warm to hot and your job will be quite pleasingly easy. The vinegar makes the glue come off more clean a little less gummy.
Use water mixed with Cascade dishwasher soap. It has a wetting agent.
