The 5 hp Mercury outboard requires no special type gear oil. General recommendation is for a GL-5 class lubricant, i.e. hypoid 90w. Most any of the oem, or aftermarket gear lubes, manufactured for outboard use, will work just fine.

∙ 16y agoI have a 1999 Mercury 2stroke 5HP outboard and the owners manual states 50:1 Gas/Oil mixture.
50 to 1 oil and gas mixture
50:1
80-90WT hypoid gear oil. I use synthetic because it lasts longer, seems to lower the drag on the gears, and shifts easier from F-N-R
to of 25 km/h
50:1
From my experence 1 hp is equal to 50 pounds of thrust.
50:1
not sure how wide your Jon boat is but I would go with a 3.5HP or 5HP outboard no bigger
ratio 50:1
No.
do you need a boat licence for a 5hp outboard
