The float level in the carburetor is either to high and floods the engine while turning and it dies.If it's to low then fuel goes to one side of the fuel boal in the carburetor when turning and engine leans out / RUNS OUT OF FUEL. and dies.Adjust float level in carb.
I would suspect a bad needle valve and seat in the carburetor. The float level can also be set too high. I would replace the needle valve and seat and check float level.I would suspect a bad needle valve and seat in the carburetor. The float level can also be set too high. The float is heavy because it has leaked and filled partially with gasoline or it has become saturated. If the float is heavy it will not stop the flow of gas into the float chamber at the correct level. This will cause the carburetor to dump a rich mixture into the combustion chamber. The engine will foul the spark plug quickly and use more fuel than expected.
Use a float level gauge and measure the distance from the carburetor body to the float arm - The correct float level is 7.5mm(0.30in.)
The float level on the XR500 motorcycle is typically set to around 19-20mm below the float bowl gasket surface when the carburetor is inverted. This measurement ensures proper fuel delivery and optimal engine performance. It's important to consult the service manual for precise instructions on adjusting the float level.
Floats control the amount of fuel in the carburator's bowls. The fuel level that is incorrect can cause an lean/rich condition.
There should be a hose connecting the vents on the front and rear float bowls. You are missing the hose. If for some reason the fuel level is too high the gas will travel to the rear of the carb and be burnt in the engine. You need to have the float level adjusted to a lower level, maybe a full rebuild. Do not use the carburetor without the balance hose, due to fire hazard.
Seals, or float level.
needle & seat maybe dirty , also check float level
Most likely, Your float is stuck in the carburetor. If it is stuck open gas will continue to flow into the carburetor bowl, then it will flow into the crank case and cause your oil level to rise. You need to take off your carburetor and adjust the float.
Float level to HIGH, Needle and seat not installed correct are damaged. Carburetor not CLEANED correct. Fuel pressure to high. That engine should only have 6 to 9 lbs. of fuel pressure.
Bend the tab that contacts with the "needle". But DON'T put pressure on the needle when you do so. Carburetor rebuild instructions that come with the carb rebuild kit will tell you how to adjust everything and give optimum float level settings.
