I am a USCG licensed Captain. I operate a pontoon tour boat on the Ocklawaha and Silver Rivers. There is no vessel type restrictions. But it is a hazardous waterway a narrow channel and is considered a bare steerage way system in the narrow river channel bu the USCG. It is enforced as a no wake zone on some sections. That is the legal end of the answer as I understand it. I understand my legal liabilities as a captain taking on paying passengers but this also applies to non commercial operators also. You are responsible to have your vessel under control. Now for the physical ability for any vessel to travel the entire Ocklawaha River from just above Hwy. 40 to the St. Johns takes some planning and even then huge fallen trees crossing the entire stream from bank to bank have made even canoes and kayaks grimace. If you are planning on using the river as a challenging race track please don't. Too many riders are getting hurt or hurting others and this is a amazing wilderness stretch which you should slow down and enjoy the rare peace and quiet no matter what type of vessel you are driving.
