There are a number of reasons why a bird would want feathers in its nest.

Firstly, they are soft. They protect the eggs.

Secondly, they insulate very well. They keep the eggs warm during cold weather and cold during hot weather.

It is also a very nice material for the hatch-lings to pop out into.

Hmmm..

The reasons above are probably not the birds reasons even though it work out the same.

The birds will probably use feathers simply because they are light and available. It has probably got a lot to do with instinct as well.
