For a bad luck item, they have considerable sales potential and souvenir value= there is a store in New York that sells them and also all manner of stuffed birds- in connection with a floristry business. Peacock feathers were placed inside the casket of Sarah Bernhardt- this shows in the photos of her actual (not dry run) Wake or visitaiton, the dry runs do not have flowers- and/or Peacock Feathers, the real ones do. As Peacocks are not native to France, and NBC was unknown at the time- except as a Radio Station.-this cannot be a standard ( French Mortuary custom). I am puzzled by it. connection with coffin, as with flowers to some people, could have morbid or bad-luck aspects... but... The Night has a thousand eyes- the peacock cannot see through his tail feathers, sadly!

Ostrich feathers aren't really considered bad luck, but they aren't exactly good luck either. It is the crow's feather that is bad luck. The ostrich feather is more along the lines of neutral.
