Fingerprints are important because they are unique to each individual, making them a reliable method for identification. They are used by law enforcement agencies for criminal investigations and by security systems for authentication purposes. Additionally, fingerprints are difficult to duplicate or replicate, enhancing their effectiveness as a security measure.
The tests confirm, beyond a shadow of doubt, that someone committed a crime or it can be used to locate a child that has been kidnapped or is just missing. We didn't have this technology years ago and it has come in very handy. There are many uses for fingerprinting because no one has exactly the same fingerprint. Don't forget that a John or Jane Doe can be identified by fingerprints.

The tests confirm, beyond a shadow of doubt, that someone committed a crime - Not so. One needs to be very careful about this.
Fingerprints of course are individual, so if Jane Doe's fingerprints are found on an object(s) at the scene of a crime they show that she touched the object(s) - unless they were planted. However, matters like when and how Jane Doe came to touch the object(s) and what she did with them, are separate. To take a simple example: the knife with which the victim was stabbed may have Jane Doe's fingerprints - perhaps because she handled it for perfectly legitimate reasons several hours, days or weeks before the crime was committed. In themselves they don't prove that she was even present when the crime was committed.
Of course, fingerprints are often very useful when investigating crimes, and - taken together with other evidence - are often an important part of the case against the accused.
