ATP (Adenosine TriphosPhate) is basically the way living organisms transfer and use energy. Whether its via photosynthesis or via metabolism in mammals use there energy source to produce ATP. When the organism needs the energy it looses a phosphate which releases the energy and becomes ADP (Adenosine DiPhosphate). Then through photosynthesis, metobolism, etc. the ADP will be turned back into ATP so the process can start all over again.
