In the past farmers could only observe natural mutations and selectively breed for superior traits. In effect all modern food id genetically modified either by breeding or by diect manipulation of the genes.The impacts of natural or modern gene manipulation include:

  • Resistance to pests
  • Increased yield
  • Reduced need for nutrients and water
  • Increased resistance to frost etc.
  • Improved shelf life when picked
  • Improve taste and appearance
