There are two types of ERs--smooth and rough.

The smooth ER has a lot of functions, but the major one is the production of lipids. The rough ER's major function is the synthesis of proteins from ribosomes that are studded around it :)

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is an organelle involved in the synthesis, folding, modification, and transport of proteins and lipids in eukaryotic cells. It consists of two regions: smooth ER, involved in lipid metabolism, and rough ER, which has ribosomes on its surface and is involved in protein synthesis. The ER also plays a role in detoxification and calcium storage.

Endoplasmic reticulum functions as a packaging system. It does not work alone. It works closely with Golgi particles, ribosomes etc.

What is the function of Rough endoplasmic reticulum in animal cell?

The rough endoplasmic reticulum in animal cells is involved in protein synthesis. It has ribosomes attached to its surface which help in the translation of mRNA into proteins. These proteins are then modified and transported to other parts of the cell.

What is the function of the endoplasmic and reticulum?

The rough endoplasmic reticulum is covered in ribosomes and helps produce most of the proteins. Smooth endoplasmic reticulum does not have these ribosomes, and is almost solely for producing lipids.

How does Endoplasmic function?

endoplasmic reticulum is divided into two parts that are smooth endoplasmic reticulum and rough endoplasmic reticulum. It is the network of membranes which provide skeletal framework to the cell.

What is the function of Endoplasmic in animal cells?

There are two types of endoplasmic reticulum in an animal cell. The rough endoplasmic reticulum is responsible for making proteins. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is responsible for synthesizing steroids, phospholipids, and lipids.

What is a function of a endoplasmic reticulum?

The endoplasmic reticulum is a network of membrane- covered channels that look like a fold of a fan or accordion. Being folded means the endoplasmic reticulum has a large surfaced area in a small space.
