Some deaf people think it is a good idea because they can hear what people are saying and they can have real conversations, whereas, others would not try ir because it could damage them and it may go wrong

yes. YES!

Hearing yourself think isn't actually "hearing" yourself. Everyone can "hear" their self think inside their head. So yes if your deaf you can still think. (and "hear" it.) Of course, if you are born deaf and have have never heard speech before, then you wouldn't be able to think the same way that hearing people can.
