about 30000000000
This was the original answer quoted. I got 18000000000, approximately two thirds of the first answer. Since both answers are estimates, it won't pay to split hairs over it, but I did think it might be interesting to explain how I got the figure.
Someone else at Wikianswers reminded me that the density of a person is very similar to the density of water (since our bodies are 70 per cent water anyway). That is 1 gram per cubic centimetre.
I estimated the length of an index finger at 10cm and the radius of the cross-section as 0.75cm. That gave me a volume of 0.000017 cubic metres. Using the density of water to determine the mass of a finger gives an answer of about 17 grams.
Another reason why it is hard to be accurate in this estimate is because no one can be certain how many cells there are in the human body. The average estimate is 75,000,000,000,000 (75 trillion).
Finally, assuming that cells are evenly spread by mass throughout the body (ie 1kg of one part of the body will contain the same number of cells as 1kg of any other part), we can use the ratio of the mass of the finger to the mass of the whole body (an average man has a mass of 70kg), to find that the finger, with a mass of approximately one "four thousandth" of the whole body should contain one four thousandth of all the cells.
In my calculation, the figure was the one written above, 18,000,000,000 or 18 billion.
The pointer finger is the second digit on the hand, next to the thumb. It is also known as the index finger.
The little finger, or pinky finger, typically contains around 500 million cells. This number can vary slightly depending on individual variation and factors such as age and overall health.
The middle finger is commonly seen as an offensive gesture in many cultures, representing contempt or defiance. It can be considered rude or disrespectful when used in certain contexts.
(Right hand) (Left to Right)Pinky,Ring finger,Middle finer,Pointer,ThumbIn layman's terms: forefinger, middle finger, ring finger and pinky finger. Most consider the thumb a thumb and not a finger. I disagree.
We call that the Index finger. Most likely it was given this title due to the fact that we utilize it for pointing and it is most dominate finger utilized when searching documents, lists, information and indexes. It is also the first finger we use when searching through files. Thus, the "index" finger.
No. Pointer is pointer and middle is middle. If anyone told you pointer = middle, he/she was making fun of you.
The pointer finger is also known as the index finger and is the second finger from the thumb on a human hand. It is commonly used to point at things or touch objects.
by using finger pointer and the index finger.
Pointer finger?
the pointer or the index finger
A pointer finger :p
if you have it on your pointer finger it means gay if you are married if you aren"t married having a ring on your pointer finger means nothing.
The pointer finger is the second digit on the hand, next to the thumb. It is also known as the index finger.
The pointer finger
yea that's why its called the point FINGER
pinky , ring finger, middle finger , pointer finger , and thumb
Right hand: Thumb up, pointer finger makes a "B" with the thunb. middle finger stays straight up to make the "L". ring finger curls around onto the middle finger to make an "O". Left hand: thumb and pointer finger makes a "D" by putting pointer finger halfway down thumb. Middle finger curls around onto the curled pointer finger to make the "O". Put the two "O" 's together. =)
