Viruses infect the host cells by mainly injecting their Genomes (DNA or RNA) into the host cells. Viral RNA (in case of HIV) converted (reverse transcribed) to form DNA. These DNA get access to the nucleus of host cell and most of the time integrate the viral genome into the host genome. So the host will now treat the DNA of virus as their "OWN", aid to synthesize viral compartments(capsid proteins) and the viral genome; that subsequently packages to form progeny viruses!

Viruses are grown using host cells, which allows them to replicate and multiply. Scientists use cell culture techniques to provide a suitable environment for the viruses to infect and reproduce. These infected host cells are then collected and purified to obtain a high concentration of the virus for research or production purposes.

Viruses can multiply by staying still in your body for a long time. You might think they are gone, but they are truly still there. Since you cannot see them it is very hard to tell if they are still there or not. The longer the virus stays in your body the faster they can multiply.
