The Venus Flytrap is carnivorous, which means it is a meat eater. What kind of meat? Insects only, please. Hamburger and other meats have too much fat and will eventually kill it.

A few flies or grubs a month will be enough. The bug should be about one third the size of the trap leaf. Some pet stores sell things you can use.

In the wild, carnivorous plants grow on nitrogen poor soil and must capture and digest insects in order to get enough nitrogen to survive. This trick lets them grow on poor soil where there is practically no competition from other plants.

Yes, Venus fly traps can produce small white flowers on tall stalks in the spring. However, while they do flower, they are primarily known for their carnivorous traps that capture insects for nutrients.
