One way they are similar is because a chain is made full of metal links. In a food chain your energy is your metal and the links are the animals. The animal eats one animal and gets 10% of its energy. And that is the process of the food chain and the links go on forever until they are all gone for the metal chain, and it goes the same for the food chain

Not all living things are part of a food chain. Some organisms, like plants and certain bacteria, are producers that create their own energy through photosynthesis and do not rely on consuming other organisms.

It could be looked at that way. The "little" things get eaten by the "bigger" things, and when the bigger things die, they feed the little things. Simplistic, but accurate.
