A long distance runner or cross country runner would need lots of strenght so they could manage to run long distances without collapsing, the shape of their bodies are usually slim and small so they have less weight to carry and are lighter on their feet, whereas a sprint runner will be bulkier and muscly because they would normally have to have more strength to start running very fast straight away and give it all they can. Long distance runners need only to really jog quickly, but they also have a fairly long time to get up to speed and don't have to push off straight away. A sprinter will have to have a great deal of practise on their starts to make sure they have the best possible push off- this takes a lot of strength.
Muscle endurance is more important for them than muscle strength.
