Andromeda's
In Greek mythology, the figure punished by Poseidon for boasting about her beauty was the mortal queen Cassiopeia. She claimed that she and her daughter Andromeda were more beautiful than the Nereids, sea nymphs who were beloved by Poseidon. In retaliation, Poseidon sent a sea monster to ravage her kingdom, leading to Andromeda's sacrifice to appease the monster.
In Greek mythology, the mortal woman punished by Poseidon for boasting about her beauty is Medusa. Originally a beautiful maiden, she was transformed into a Gorgon by Athena after Poseidon violated her in Athena's temple. As a result of her transformation, Medusa became terrifying, with snakes for hair and the ability to turn anyone who looked at her into stone.
yes
he punished him with slavery (not that sure but that is what i remeber.)
Medusa was once a priestess in the Temple of Athena. She was renowned for her beauty, but had taken a vow of chastity because her patron goddess, Athena, was also the Goddess of Virgins. According to legend, she was raped inside the Temple of Athena by the god Poseidon. Since this behaviour was expected of Poseidon, Athena blamed Medusa for the rape, and the desecration of her temple, and punished her accordingly. Basically victimizing her (Medusa) a second time.
Poseidon turns the Phaeacians ship into stone
The Aethiopian queen Κασσιόπη is the mythological source for the naming of the constellation of Cassiopeia. According to the myth, she was punished by the god Poseidon, who rules the oceans, for boasting that she and her daughter Andromedawere more beautiful than the daughters of the sea-god Nereus, the Nereids. Poseidon chained her to a chair and placed her in the heavens near the pole, so that as the heavens rotate, she is upside-down half the time.
Medusa was once a beautiful woman, worshiping the goddess Athena. Then a God, named Poseidon, noticed her beauty and raped her. When Medusa begged Athena for help, Athena instead punished Medusa because in her mind it should be Medusa who should be punished (Athena was jealous of Medusa, and apparently to the Gods its perfectly okay to allow an innocent woman to be raped and then punished for being the victim)
Athena punishes alot of people. For one, she punished Medusa for dating with Poseidon in her temple, which is VERY, EXTREMELY rude for a goddess. She couldn't punish her uncle( poseidon) so she punished Medusa, and Medusa's hair turned to snakes.
cassiopeia
In the story, She constantly bragged about her beauty, which ultimately led to her daughter's punishment as a consequence of her mother's vanity. The excessive pride and boasting not only reflected poorly on She but also affected her daughter, highlighting the theme of how one's flaws can impact loved ones. This dynamic serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of arrogance and the repercussions it can have on family relationships.
