Tampons are inserted by putting the tampon into your vagina - it's not much more difficult than that. You need to relax when inserting the tampon, aim towards the small of your back, and insert as far as it will go. If you look on the tampon box it will have instructions, you can also find instructions online and videos on YouTube on how to insert different types of tampons.

Alright, to put a tampon in safely and correctly, this is what you do. First, make sure you're not in a hurry the first time you put one in. Don't do the first time at school, or in a public bathroom. Do it when you're at home with nothing to disturb you. Second, wash your hands! Yes, you may get a little bloody inserting a tampon! Third, make sure you are putting a tampon in for your first time on a day with a heavy flow. The tampon slides in much easier then a light day. Once you're used to tampons, then it doesn't matter. Forth, get in a comfortable position on the toilet or bathtub. Some girls like laying down, or squatted over the toilet with knees slightly bent. Fifth, take the tampon out of the wrapper. Sixth, make sure you are fully relaxed! If you aren't, then it will hurt going in because your muscles are clenched! Seven, put the tampon at the base of your vagina and try to feel where the opening is. Eight, once you found it, slowly slide it in, aiming it at your back rather then straight up. (If it hurts going in, you're not inserting it correctly. ) Nine, once it's in, (Just the tampon and applicator, not the plunger) slowely push the plunger up until the tampon is in place. Ten. take the plastic applicator out, (leave the tampon itself in) and throw it out. If you don't like plastic for the environment, there are cardboard applicators but the plastic slides in easier. Once it's inserted correctly, you shouldn't feel it at all and the string of the tampon should be hanging out of your body. Then, wash your hands. A good brand for beginners is Tampax Pearl in lights, (the ones with purple applicators). When you remove the tampon, here's what you do. First. Wash your hands. Second, once again, make sure you have a bathroom where no one will disturb you. Third, squat over the toilet (or whatever is comfortable for you) Forth, grab the string of the tampon and wrap your finger around it (MAKE SURE YOU ARE RELAXED). Fifth, slowly and gentally pull on the string. Pull it at the same angle you inserted it. If it hurts, it's either one: not ready to be taken out (not full of enough blood) or two: you're pulling the wrong way, or three: you're not relaxing. Sixth, once you get it out, flush it down the toilet and wash your hands. (If you don't have a good sewer system or have a septic tank, put the tampon in a plastic bag and throw it out). If tampons don't work out for you, "U by Kotex" makes really good pads! Plus, they come in pretty colors! If you do use tampons, "Tampax" are good, but if you're active, (like if you do sports) use "Playtex". I hope this helped! :)

I hope you are not wearing a tampon when not on a period. This is unhealthy and if you are just starting your period you should not be using a tampon until you are older. How do you put a tampon in if you are a boy?

You can only use a tampon if you're menstruating - if you're a boy you may menstruate, but only if you have a uterus and vagina (e.g. if you're a trans boy). If you're a cis boy then there's absolutely no reason for you to be using tampons and nowhere for you to put a tampon as you don't have a vagina. So in short, if you are a boy you do not put a tampon in at all.
