The expression "5 and 6 pence" means "5 shillings and 6 pence", and refers to the monetary system used in Great Britain prior to decimalization in 1968.
Under the "£sd" system (which stands for Pounds-Shillings-Pence), there were 12 pence to a shilling and 20 shillings to a pound. Thus "5 and 6 pence" would mean 5.5 shillings or 5.5/20ths of a pound - 27.5p in today's decimal terms.
While shillings and the old style pence no longer circulate, 27.5p would be about 40 US cents as of mid-January 2010. The exchange rate has changed over time, however, and if you are asking as it relates to a historical period (where the exchange rate, currently about GBP1.00=US$1.60, may have been markedly different), you should probably look into the exchange rate at that time, as well as inflation or cost of living since that time, to get an equivalent real value.

More information is needed. Please post a new, separate question that includes the coin's date, country of origin, and denomination (e.g. 5 cents, 5 pence, 5 pesos, etc.)

The 5 pence coin is worth only around 8 cents in US currency, or 5 pence in the UK.
In 1900, the British currency of 5 shillings and 6 pence would be equivalent to approximately $1.33 in American dollars. The exchange rate during that time was roughly 4.86 dollars to the pound. Thus, 5 shillings (which is a quarter of a pound) plus 6 pence (which is 1/40 of a pound) totals a small amount, reflecting the value of money at the turn of the century.
You can't spend American currency in England. If you change it into British currency it's worth about 5 pence. How much is 5 pence
In 1932, the French franc was worth about four cents (25.46 to the American dollar or 3.92 cents). By 1939 and the start of WWII, the franc had shrunk to just about 2.5 cents. During and after the war, the franc was worth anybody's guess, what with Vichy money and American and British issued francs after the war. For comparison, the British pound in 1932 was worth roughly $5, so the franc was worth a bit less than 2 pence. (Remember, this was before metrification, so a british pound was worth 20 shillings and a shilling was worth 12 pence, so a pound was worth 240 pence.)

A 5 pence coin weighs 3.25 grams. Therefore, £1 worth of 5 pence coins, which consists of 20 coins, would weigh 20 x 3.25 grams, totaling 65 grams.
A bolivars is the unit of money in Venezuela. One bolivars is worth 16 American cents and 5 bolivars are worth 79 American cents.
A five pence coin is worth 5 pence, and 7 pennies are worth 7 pence, making the total value 5 + 7 = 12 pence. Since each 2p coin is worth 2 pence, you can determine how many 2p coins equal 12 pence by dividing 12 by 2. Thus, 12 pence divided by 2 pence per coin equals 6. Therefore, 6 two-pence coins have the same value as 1 five pence coin and 7 pennies.
