key on engine not running 58-64 psi engine running at idle pressure should drop by 3-10 psi
On the V6 version the fuel pressure at the Schroeder valve should start at 45 psi before starting and will drop to about 35 to 40 psi running.
Throttle Body Injection (TBI) Aprox. 9 - 13 psi with key on, not running and a 3 -10 psi drop when running at idle. Multiport Fuel Injection (MFI) Aprox. 41 -47 psi with key on, not running and a 3 -10 psi drop when running at idle. Central Multiport Fuel Injection (CMFI) Aprox. 58 -64 psi with key on, not running and a 3 -10 psi drop running at idle. Central Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection (CSEFI) Aprox. 55 -61 psi with key on, not running and again the 3 -10 psi drop running at idle.
The fuel pump pressure may vary by vehicle. However, on average the fuel pump pressure with the engine running should be between 4-6 psig.
Out of fuel? Pump not running?
Low/no fuel pressure, fuel pressure that starts out ok but fades after the engine is running a while, noisy fuel pump or electrically noisy fuel pump. An electrically noisy fuel pump may just cause interference with the radio but otherwise run ok. Fuel pump that blows the fuse. Fuel pressure may drop because of either a fuel pump or a fuel filter.
Yes
Fuel pressure (ignition key turned to on, engine not running): 50 to 60 psi
9 to 13 LBS (PSI) Correct answer is that if it is a 1996 to 2000 the correct fuel pressure is 60 to 66 with key on and not running 55 to 58 with it running at idle.
In most vehicles you can remove the fuel pump fuse or fuel pump relay as the engine is running, the engine will stall when the pressure is gone.
Clogged fuel filter or weak fuel pump.
While engine is running remove the fuel pump fuse. Engine will run out of fuel when pressure drops.
