did you check the kick down cable connected to your transmition to your carb or fuel injection unit? the main purpose of the kick down cable is it tells the transmition to shift when you accelerate the car.i had the same problem to my Ford Taurus. don't try to do it yourself! take it to the shop! Possibly a bad BOO Switch. BOO means Brake On and Off switch. Common problem in mid 90's explorers. Would cause rough idle and stalling.
