∙ 14y agoThe starter on my Focus 2.3 Litre, won't even crank, if the transponder isn't making
contact, with the sensor around the lock cylinder. There is also a TSB(Technical Service
Bulletin) for a "Hard Starting" condition for the Focus. If I park my car, then go to start
it again, it will crank, but not start on occassion, so maybe that's what's going on instead, don't know. You have to get the ECU reprogrammed by a Ford dealer, to get the TSB thing done, which is free. Good luck.

∙ 14y agoNo you don't, when you install a remote start, it will come with a transponder for it, if you go to get it installed at a place like bestbuy it will come with a remote start transponder after they install it for you. Imad

A couple things could be wrong...... first thing you always want to try is another key, (if you have one) then if the car starts and no error message you know you have a bad key. if you still have a no start and error message it might be the transponder coil located on the ignition switch. could also be a bad imobilizer. Question.....does the engine start and then die right away? Or does the engine not start at all? a bad transponder coil will usually cause the start then die complaint. good luck!
You don't
You can't. Only a Toyota dealer can program the transponder key as it has a chip inside the key and has to communicate with the engine in order to start the car. Toyota dealer charges 1/2 hour of labor about $42 to program. Now the remote is easy...but not the key.
Normally it would only cause a problem if the transponder key had severe damage or trying to start the car without the transponder. If the key looks ok and there's no damage to the sstem then it's probably not the transponder system causing the problem. The dealership could figure this out.
The transponder is in the head of the key. The antennae for the transponder is the plastic ring around where the key is inserted. It can be bypassed by putting the head of the key under the cover of the column, next to the antennae. A normal mechanical key would then start the vehicle. Useful in remote start applications.

Remove the immobilizer unit?
Typmy transponder chip has been damaged and my renault kangoo wont start now, how do i bypass the immobilizer so it will start
Yes. If you have a grey key, it has a transponder that electrically reads a chip in the key. You essentially have two locks -- one mechanical and one electrical. They both have to work to start the car. Should you go and have a generic key cut that fits the ignition, even thought the mechanical lock cylinder will turn -- the transponder won't allow the engine to fire. Any quality locksmith can program the car's transponder to match the electronic code of the key.
If the battery is fully charged, check to see if the Security / Theft light in the instrument panel is flashing. If it is flashing instead of staying solid OR going out completely after turning the key to the run position you may have a problem with the transponder chip inside of the key. If the theft light in the instrument cluster does not flash or do anything unusual than your problem is not with the transponder key and must be located elsewhere in the vehicle. If you need more information of Ford transponder keys you can call a locksmith, who might be able to help you.
