it's easy and really hard to damage your oak floor using this method but time consuming and requires a buffer and paint brush.

-claen and dry the floor

-use a 320 grit maroon pad on the buffer to polish open areas

-use 100 grit sandpaper to lightly sand the edges

after buffing and sanding there should be and even layer of white powder on the floor.

-vaccuem and clean with damp water

-apply a new coat of finish(oil based polyurathane or water-based coating will work fine for a re-coat).

recoats hold a shine for 6 months in restraunts.

...there is nothing you can do to get an oak floor to shine like new without coating.
