Eventually, rear window tinting becomes old. As it ages, it begins to degenerate, leaving a nasty appearance. At this point, you should remove it. Thankfully, removing window tinting is a very easy process.
First, you need to park your car outside on a sunny day. The sun is important because it’s needed to heat your rear window.
Secondly, you need to a take a couple of trash bags and cut them into the shape of your rear window. Now cover the outside of the window with water and soap. Apply one trash bag to the window and smooth it out.
The next step is to protect everything in your car near that rear window. Do this by covering everything with a tarp. This should include your upholstery, your speakers, and so forth.
For the next step, you will need undiluted ammonia. After you have protected everything around the window, take the ammonia and spray it all over the rear window from the inside of your car. Make sure to wear a protective mask while spraying the ammonia.
Next, take the second trash bag you cut out in the shape of the car window earlier. Press it against the inside of the window so it sticks.
Now let the car sit outside with the rear window facing the sun for an hour. This will deteriorate the adhesive that keeps the tint stuck to the window.
After one hour, come back and remove the trash bag. Again spray the rear window with ammonia. You should now be able to easily peel off the tint strip by strip. You should be able to use your finger nails. If you can’t, get under the end of the tint using a razor blade. Be careful not to damage the defroster lines.
After all the strips of tint have been removed from the window, the last step is to clean off any remaining adhesive. You can do this by spraying it with more ammonia and rubbing it off with steel wool.
Following these simple steps, you’ll find removing that ugly, old tint from your car can be a very easy and quick job to get done.
