The possibilities here are many, and you're not going to narrow it down without doing a diagnosis. Depending on the MY, sensors could be a possibility, poor air intake, loss of compression, spark, or fuel could be a possible reason, ECM failure (if 1987 or newer) could be a reason.. a LOT more info and a lot more diagnosis is needed here.

Cutting the back off from a "barn door" donor and welding it onto the "tailgate" recipient.
