The engine is overheating - see a mechanic for a professional diagnosis .
Check the ignition system first for a possible coil overheating. Watch the heat gauge and check fluid levels, as a bad gasket may show up with the engine heating. Check the fuel filter as well.
you do not have any anitfreeze in your radiator or it is low if that does not fix it then you might need a new thermostat which you can get at your local Napa Autoparts store

The temperature gage will show an increase in water temp, the temp warning light and or a warning audio signal will sound. Water in the form of steam will emit from the engine/hood. Some have oil temp readings and it will also show an increase in temp. Extreme overheating will cause the engine to work improperly even to catastrophic failure.
The heating curve for glass would show a gradual and steady increase in temperature until it reaches its softening point, where it begins to deform. In contrast, the heating curve for water would show a relatively stable temperature increase until it reaches its boiling point, at which point the temperature remains constant until all the water has evaporated.
