My father grew up off Old Leicester Highway 15-20 miles west of Asheville in the small township of Leicester. As a kid I fell in love with collecting arrowheads from the plowed fields all around there. Of course my grandfather new all the farmers so he never had trouble getting permission for me to roam the fields. But the arrow heads were fairly abundant. They ranged from 1000 yrs old (late woodland period) to 10,000 yrs old (archaic period: eg, Dalton-Hardaway points). So Indians occupied that region for many thousands of years!!
