visual of head bolts on 1999 northstar
Northstar engines were first installed in 1993 model year cars. The first version of the Northstar engine was produced from 93-99. The engine was redesigned in 2000
if it has a northstar engine, it requires a special tool to install/remove. the pump is threaded into the engine block. the store where you get the tool from should be able to point it out to you more clearly.
Depending what make it is; Deville has a 4.9 (V8). Deville Concours 4.6 (V8)Northstar engine. Eldorado has the 4.6 (V8) Northstar engine. Fleetwood 5.7 (V8) Seville 4.6 (V8) Northstar engine.
The engine itself is VERY reliable. The problem is usually electronics in the car. I have had my 98 Deville for years and never had any engine problems. I have had to replace the water pump, thermostat, and power steering pump. Hope that helps...
Follow the radiator hoses one leads to the water pump the other leads to the thermostat housing. The thermostat housing hold the thermostat all you do is unbolt it romove old thermostat and replace with new one.
