, I just purchased one.. I heard it could do about 70 stock.. I have hit 65 no problem but could not see the machine doing more than 80 stock .. at 65 on the softest shock setting and regular tire pressure you feel out of control on pavement. around 70 seems about a good capable speed
I have heard from my local Polaris dealer that the new 850 XP Sportsman is capable of 84 mph which is hauling in anybody's book. I have a 700 EFI that will do about 65 and that is absolutely flying on an ATV, can't even imagine 80 plus.

200 mph
45 MPH
The average top speed of a Polaris Sportsman 550 is 65 miles per hour. However, this quad can sometimes go as much as 68 miles per hour.
65 is pushing it, but 70 max is what we have had out of mine
45mph (speedometer in my friends truck following)
she will do over 70 at least mine does and its stock
55 mph to 60 mph is the top speed of the 2005 polaris sportsman 500. Motorcycle Directory
I have toped out at about 61mph before. The 400 sportsman goes about 55 to 60mph. The sportsman 500 flies down trails and has great accelaratsion. The sportsman 850 will do 84mph and the 550 broke in good and everthing will do close to 70mph. The 800 will do about 70mph to 75mph
Probably around 55 mph, my 500 h.o. did about 63 mph.
At stock gearing it will hi taroung 1/2 a mile per hour
around 75mph? or so.. very fast aceleration with a custom air fillter
with factory tires and all stock, you cam reach 80 km/hr and eventually get up to 100 km/hr
